The alternator does not generate electricity on its own initiative. It involves spinning each pulley by hand with the engine off, listening and feeling for roughness, wobble, or resistance that indicates bearing wear. It involves checking belt tension and evaluating whether the automatic tensioner is maintaining adequate pressure.
